Duke University

Here is a breakdown of our day camping at Falls Lake Recreation Area on Tuesday, October 30:

7:30 a.m.

I got up and set the GoPro to take time lapse video by the lake.  I then took Charlie for a walk around the campground.  It was a little chilly - in the lower 40s.  The sunrise was beautiful!

We had a good breakfast of sausage, scrambled eggs with mushrooms and onions, and whole grain toast with grape jelly.

After Clinton and I both took showers in the RV, we got ready to explore Durham, NC.

We usually pack a picnic lunch to keep cost down but this day we decided to use the Cracker Barrel gift card someone had given us.

10:30 a.m.

We used our new favorite app, Gas Buddy, to find the cheapest diesel in Durham.  We would never have found this gas station just driving around.  It was 10 to 20 cents cheaper than any we had seen.

After doing a little research on Yelp and Trip Advisor, we decided to spend some time at the beautiful campus of Duke University.  I am so glad we did!

Travel Day - Asheville to Durham, NC

Monday was a travel day for us.  We were kind of sad to leave our campground - it was so cute!  After a quick breakfast of cereal, we went through our routine of tearing down our campsite and pulled out at 10:00 a.m.

Leaving the Smoky Mountains was also a bit sad - we really enjoyed our time there!

After about two hours, the mountains gave way to gentle, rolling hills.  We took Interstate 40 for most our drive.

There was a really rough section of Interstate 40 that made Charlie, our Schnauzer, scared!

We stopped at a couple of different rest stops along the way, letting the dogs stretch their legs as well, and eating a picnic lunch.

A little over four hours later, we arrived in the Falls Lake Recreational Area.  Unfortunately the map on my phone took us to the wrong place.  Thankfully we were able to turn the rig around and found the correct campground thanks to a phone call to the very helpful park office.

We found our campsite (#73) which was by the lake.  It was sloping down but C…

The Start of Daily Blogging

Sixteen days ago, my husband and I started something BIG!  We left the comforts of home and family and hit the road to see the country while living in our RV!

I am working on creating videos of our travels but I also want to blog about them as well.

You can save so much more information in a blog than you can a vlog.  A vlog is more visual whereas a blog can be more informational.

This may be interesting only to me but here it goes.....

Friday started with my new routine - getting up with the dogs about 6:00 a.m.  I took them on a quick, wet walk as it had been raining all night.

I then worked for the next two hours uploading the video I had worked on last night to Youtube.  It's nice to have wifi here in this campground but it's not super fast.

After a light breakfast of coffee and oatmeal scotchy cookies, Clinton and I packed up a picnic lunch and headed out for our daily adventure.  It was a cool (47 degrees) and foggy morning.

We headed for the Blue Ridge Parkway in the …
