First Thanksgiving in the RV
Thursday, November 22, 2018
Thanksgiving Day started with a brisk walk with the dogs (36°). I actually woke the dogs up this morning! Even though life would be easier without the dogs, they bring us so much joy and love and laughter. And they have gotten me in the routine of waking up early and going for a walk.
Because of them, I get to see sights like this! We have loved Dreher Island State Park!
It felt awesome knowing we were not going anywhere today! I think this is the first day since October 10 in which we didn't go somewhere.
We ate French toast and bacon for breakfast and settled in to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This is one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving! I love it so much, I made my husband take me to see it for my 50th birthday a couple of years ago. It was even better in person!
This is the first Thanksgiving I can remember since probably my childhood I got to watch the parade from start to finish without doing anything. I didn't have to cook right away or travel somewhere. I just sat on the couch in the RV and watched the entire thing!
We took the dogs for a nice walk and then watched the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. That's another thing I never get to watch when I'm at home - too busy cooking and visiting. A dog I had never heard of - a Whippet named Whiskey - won best of show.
We spent time FaceTiming family and friends and took one last quick drive around the park so we could get some film footage. We also visited our sweet campground neighbors beside us. Their daughter, Ava, made us the cute turkey from the pinecone (see picture at beginning). They are the sweetest! Here is Ava and her mom:
It truly felt like Thanksgiving with friends!
Everything was finally ready for our Thanksgiving dinner - we had grilled a turkey breast on our Traeger grill and had baked frozen rolls on it - we also had mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce, and even tried collard greens. We had mini pecan pies from Walmart for dessert. It was all very good and reminded us of home!
It was funny - I had used almost every pot I had brought and used all three burners on the stove plus used the microwave! It seemed like a lot of dishes for just the two of us but it was worth it!
Throughout the evening, I worked on the blog, took the dogs for a potty walk, and put some pictures up on the walls (finally!). Clinton watched football.
We didn't have any expenses today - Yeah! And we just drove around the campground.
Here's a video of our drive through the park and campground. It was so pretty!
Friday we are traveling to Charleston - I'm so excited! We've never been there and it sounds beautiful! It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive. I bet the Christmas lights will be pretty there! Now that Thanksgiving is over - I am ready for Christmas!
Stay happy Campers!
